Chilean Forestry Trade Closes 2024 with Increase in Exports and Recovery in Imports

The forestry sector contributed US$7.977 billion to the country's trade exchange, highlighting a 14.7% increase in exports and a 6.4% recovery in imports.

According to information provided by the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (SUBREI) and the Forestry Institute (Infor), Chilean forestry trade showed positive performance in 2024, consolidating its role as a relevant actor in the country's trade balance.

Exports of forestry products reached US$6.371 billion FOB, representing a 14.7% increase compared to the previous year, showing a recovery after the contraction recorded in 2023.

Meanwhile, forestry imports totaled US$1.606 billion CIF, equivalent to 1.9% of the country's total imports (US$84.155 billion). This figure implies a 6.4% growth compared to 2023, although it still remains below the levels recorded in 2022.

With these variations, the forestry trade balance closed 2024 at US$4.765 billion, meaning a 17.8% increase, while the sector's trade exchange (sum of exports and imports) totaled US$7.977 billion.

The evolution over the last 24 years shows that, despite cycles of ups and downs in exports and imports, the forestry sector has maintained a sustained surplus in its trade balance, consolidating itself as one of Chile's main export activities.
