The Fire Department of the commune of Palena, Los Lagos Region, has sent support to Argentina to combat the forest fires occurring in the trans-Andean country, specifically in Los Alerces National Park.

Following a request made directly by the municipality of Esquel to the Fire Department of the commune, a fire engine, a pickup truck, and five volunteers were dispatched to support the fight against the forest fires in the province of Chubut, Argentina.

The commander, Oscar Mendoza, provided further details about the request. "We are a border town that shares culture and family ties with Argentina. In that context, municipalities in Esquel began contacting us with the aim of requesting support. The request was formalized, asking for our collaboration to safeguard homes that were at risk of being affected by the fire in Los Alerces National Park, in the Esquel area," he stated.

It is worth recalling that thousands of hectares have been affected by forest fires in Argentine Patagonia, two of which are close to the Los Lagos region.
