Thanks to the efforts of the Chilean Veterinary Medical College and the clinical unit in Concepción of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at UdeC, a team of rescuers from Brazil has arrived to support the rescue and care of wildlife affected by the fires that continue in various parts of Biobío and Ñuble.

The care being provided at the Veterinary Clinic of the University of Concepción for these types of animals began last Saturday (January 17) when the series of forest fires started. In light of the emergency and the arrival of the GRABH rescue team (Animal Rescue Group of Belo Horizonte), Dr. Paula Aravena Bustos, director of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, ANDES-UdeC, stated that "it is very important to establish these international links; we are doing this through ALEYDA (Latin American Association for Animal Emergencies and Disasters). This is a connection we have formed among Latin American countries, and it is the third time that GRABH has come to Chile during environmental emergencies to provide help in wildlife rescue, as collaborative work is crucial for this."

The support of the Brazilian rescuers is not only crucial for the rapid care of the affected wildlife but also because they provide backing for the protection of biodiversity.

The Veterinary Clinic of the University of Concepción is focused on providing assistance to wildlife that has suffered some type of impact due to the fire, having treated so far wild birds for smoke inhalation and pudus with burns on their limbs.
