The Association of Forestry Contractors, through its manager René Muñoz, questioned the Government's work on security matters.

This comes after threats involving gunshots affected two wildfire combat brigades from Forestal Arauco in Curanilahue, Bío Bío region.

According to Muñoz, in this case two crimes are being mixed: timber theft and intentional arson, which also endangers the general population due to the potential for wildfires to get out of control. "I believe both things are mixed here, and these are crimes that are appearing now, that are advancing and are not being controlled because it's unthinkable that firefighters combating wildfires—which are probably intentional—are attacked and left absolutely unprotected," he stated.

The Regional Governor, Sergio Giacaman, classified the threats against these forestry brigades as terrorist acts and called on the Government to take charge of this situation and provide certainty to citizens.

Recall that the presidential delegation reported they are aware of two groups that, with the aim of stealing timber and selling it as firewood, are causing wildfires in Lebu and also in Curanilahue, constituting a new type of crime in the Province of Arauco.
