The Biobío Region bid farewell to the Mexican delegation from the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) with a ceremony of gratitude for their invaluable support in combating the recent forest fires.
Regional authorities highlighted the professionalism and solidarity of the 145 specialists who closely collaborated in firefighting efforts, demonstrating the strong bond of international cooperation between Mexico and Chile.
The delegation, composed of seven forest brigades and technical personnel, was transported by the Chilean Air Force from Guadalajara to Concepción. Of them, 83 firefighters focused on the Trinitarias and Rancho Chico fires, including areas of the Nonguén National Park in the Biobío Region, while another 62 provided support in the La Araucanía Region.
The regional presidential delegate, Eduardo Pacheco, expressed his gratitude to the Mexican people, emphasizing the commitment of Latin American nations in times of adversity. "Today we wanted to take this moment to present you with recognition, thank you, and wish you a 'see you soon'," said Pacheco.
The Mexican firefighters, with their technical experience in high-complexity fires, strengthened on-the-ground operations and contributed to the protection of communities and valuable ecosystems. Esteban Krause, regional director of Conaf Biobío, underscored the importance of their technical work and the strategic assignment of the firefighters to critical sectors, especially in Nonguén National Park.
The collaboration between Mexico and Chile in this emergency not only reflects the solidarity and spirit of mutual aid between sister countries, but also the importance of international cooperation in managing natural disasters.
