The Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service (SBAP) officially began its operations in the Los Ríos region, marking a milestone in biodiversity conservation and the protection of the country's natural heritage.
Through a series of outreach activities during Wetlands Week, the SBAP aims to inform citizens and public services about its responsibilities and the robust sanctioning regime that supports it.
The regional director of the SBAP, Alberto Tacón, emphasized the importance of the entity's new, non-delegable sanctioning powers, ensuring that any complaint will be processed rigorously and in coordination with other state agencies. Meanwhile, the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Government in Los Ríos, Juan Guerra Hollstein, highlighted the significance of this institutional advancement, stressing that environmental protection and economic growth are complementary and essential for sustainable development.
The SBAP is not in a testing phase but has begun its functions gradually, in accordance with the regulations governing its implementation. This progressive approach covers both the administration of protected areas and the enforcement of violations outside these zones.
The creation of the SBAP represents a commitment to environmental preservation and proper ecological planning, seeking effective coordination among institutions to ensure a sustainable and balanced future for Chile.
