Discontent exists within the Seremi of Public Security of La Araucanía after it was reported that Carabineros have ceased their functions in inspecting routes to detect shipments of stolen timber.
According to information gathered by Radio Bío Bío, the decision was notified to the Government portfolio via an email, which reportedly arrived a few weeks ago.
In the message, the head of Carabineros Operations in the region stated that police personnel would no longer conduct this type of inspection.
In this regard, the reason behind the decision would be that municipal parking lots do not have space to store and safeguard a truck loaded with timber when these are seized as evidence.
For this reason, the Seremi of Public Security of La Araucanía, Israel Campusano, while confirming this information, said that he has formally requested the Comptroller's Office to determine whether the decision is appropriate or should be revoked.
