Following a meticulous investigation, the justice system has taken a step forward in clarifying a violent attack on a forestry property in the commune of Los Álamos, Biobío Region.

Two individuals were formally charged for their alleged involvement in the crimes of repeated arson, robbery with violence and intimidation, illegal possession of a firearm, and unjustified shooting. These events date back to February 2, 2022, and were claimed by the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance (RML).

The accused, captured last Friday by the Investigative Police (PDI) in Cañete, faced the formal charging hearing where the Public Prosecutor's Office presented the case background.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, approximately twenty armed individuals attacked Parcel 22, setting machinery on fire and assaulting workers. The attackers, with their faces covered and carrying weapons of various calibers, created a climate of terror on the property located in the Villa Los Ríos sector.

The Prosecutor's Office has indicated that other members of the RML have already been prosecuted for these same events, which are part of a broader context of rural violence in the province of Arauco. Preventive detention for the two individuals was ordered by the Guarantee Court, considering that their freedom poses a danger to society. Additionally, a 90-day deadline was set for the closure of the investigation.

This case highlights the complexity of conflicts in rural areas and the need for a comprehensive solution that addresses both security and the rights of indigenous communities.
