In a successful operation carried out by the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Crime Investigation Brigade (Bidema) of the PDI in Valdivia, two individuals were arrested for the crime of wood theft in the commune of Mariquina. The police action took place in the rural area of Dollinco.
Specialized detectives caught the subjects in the act of illegally extracting specimens of eucalyptus, an exotic species, without the required permits. The individuals were using motorized tools to cut and collect the wood, violating current legislation.
During the intervention, the PDI seized a Chevrolet Luv pickup truck, a Stihl brand chainsaw, and approximately four cubic meters of already processed wood ready for transport.
The estimated value of the recovered items, including the wood and the tools used in the illicit activity, amounts to nearly 3 million pesos.
The detainees were identified as a 32-year-old Chilean citizen, with prior records for weapons possession, and a 14-year-old minor with no criminal record. Both were placed at the disposal of the Guarantee Court for the corresponding detention hearing, facing charges for violating the Wood Theft Law.
This operation reflects the authorities' commitment to combating crimes that affect the environment and natural heritage. The swift action by Bidema has allowed not only the arrest of those responsible but also the recovery of valuable natural resources for the community and the ecosystem.
