The forestry sector in the Ñuble Region experienced a year-on-year drop of 48.1% in its exports, according to the latest report from the National Statistics Institute (INE) corresponding to December 2025. This decline has led the sector to contribute 25.9% to the total regional exports, amounting to US$21.4 million, a figure significantly lower compared to the same period the previous year.

The forestry industry, traditionally one of the economic engines of Ñuble, is facing a slowdown that has impacted its share in the region's export matrix. The INE report highlights a particularly negative impact on the manufacturing of pulp, paper, and cardboard.

While the Industry sector dominates with 67.2% of the total exported in the region, and the Agriculture, Forestry, and Livestock sector represents 32.4%, the decline in the forestry sector is a warning sign for its performance in the coming months. This scenario presents a challenge for Ñuble's export performance during the first quarter of 2026.

Alejandro Casagrande, regional president of Corma Bío Bío and Ñuble, commented to Crónica Chillán that, despite the decrease, the national forestry sector remains one of the country's main export industries, with US$486.8 million FOB. Although a 15% drop is recorded compared to January 2025, a 6% growth is observed compared to the previous month, which could indicate a slight recovery.

The current situation of the forestry sector in Ñuble reflects the challenges facing the regional and national economy, and its ability to adapt and recover will be decisive for the region's economic future.
