The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) Los Ríos and the Municipality of Valdivia reaffirmed their commitment to the environment through the renewal of an agreement aimed at strengthening the nursery in Saval Park. This space, dedicated to the propagation of native species, is a fundamental pillar in urban greening and environmental restoration efforts in the commune.

Since its creation in 2021, the nursery has cultivated around 8,800 plants and hosts a diversity of 54 different species, including herbaceous, shrub, and tree varieties. The collaboration between Conaf and the municipality not only beautifies the urban landscape and improves Valdivia's ecological resilience but also promotes social inclusion by generating female employment through the Emergency Employment Program (PEE).

Looking ahead to the next season, the nursery aims to exceed 10,000 plants produced, focusing on wetland recovery and the creation of new native vegetation nuclei. Arnoldo Shibar, regional director of Conaf Los Ríos, emphasized the importance of this joint effort to beautify green areas and strengthen the environmental resilience of the regional capital.

For her part, Valdivia's Mayor, Carla Amtmann, highlighted the relevance of this five-year alliance for transforming former dumps into spaces of native biodiversity. Amtmann underscored the city's commitment to sustainable development and the creation of green areas as places for gathering and beauty.

The Saval Park nursery is just one part of the network of nurseries that Conaf maintains in Los Ríos, with nearly 21 native species propagation projects generating employment for over one hundred women. This initiative adds to the municipality's strategy, which since 2022 has implemented its own municipal nursery and the "Native Nuclei" Environmental and Urban Restoration program. Through this program, approximately 80 native nuclei have been created throughout the commune, more than half of which have been developed in collaboration with local communities.

This agreement reinforces Valdivia's vision as a city that integrates sustainability into its growth and development, setting an example of how collaboration between government entities and the community can result in a positive impact for both the environment and society.
