The Government valued the state of emergency exception and stated there are no grounds to terminate the measure. They claim violence has decreased, pointing out that it is the tool to combat these types of incidents.
Only days remain for the validity of the measure, which has already been in effect for nearly four years in some areas of the southern macrozone, including La Araucanía, allowing the deployment of the Armed Forces.
In a conversation with La Radio, the presidential delegate, Francisco Ljubetic, acknowledged that the constitutional state of emergency exception allowed for a reduction in "acts of violence" and said there are no grounds to end this tool.
The authority stated that the background must be analyzed and, if conditions change, then it can be modified. However, he assured that so far the outlook "has not changed entirely," despite the decrease in incidents which, he said, are not necessarily less violent or serious.
Additionally, right-wing political sectors in the La Araucanía region reiterated the need to continue maintaining the Constitutional State of Emergency Exception, while Mapuche organizations indicated that the "militarization" does not contribute to peace.
For over 4 years, the provinces of Malleco and Cautín have been under this exceptional measure, which allows for a special deployment by the Armed Forces.
Furthermore, the region has an increase in police personnel for preventive patrols.
In that sense, the objective is associated with a security strategy to prevent -mainly- armed attacks and arson attacks.
In the coming days, the new National Congress will have to vote on whether to maintain, modify, or eliminate this measure.
In this regard, UDI deputy for district 22, Eduardo Crettón, said that as long as there is no definitive solution to end the violence and armed groups, the State of Exception must be renewed.
Various Mapuche organizations have stated that the State of Emergency is not a solution to the problems in the Southern Macrozone.
In this regard, the spokesperson for the Council of All Lands, Aucán Huilcamán, indicated that this measure only stigmatizes.
In La Araucanía, in addition to the police contingent, there is a special deployment of Army personnel throughout the region and Air Force personnel in the province of Cautín.
