Dr. Mario Ramos Maldonado, Director of the Department of Process and Bioproduct Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad del Bío-Bío, was honored for his outstanding participation and leadership upon completing four years as Chairman of the Board of the Forest Institute (INFOR), an agency under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The recognition was presented by INFOR's Executive Director, Sandra Gacitúa, in a ceremony that highlighted the academic's contribution to institutional strengthening and the strategic development of the forestry sector in Chile.
During his tenure at the head of the board, Dr. Ramos Maldonado played a key role in guiding policies, promoting applied research, and driving initiatives related to sustainability and innovation in the forestry chain. His management aligns with the work of INFOR, an entity officially established in 1965 —following its origin as a FAO project in 1961— which now stands as a national benchmark in forest technology research.
The distinction awarded to the UBB academic and researcher reflects not only his personal commitment but also the contribution of the Universidad del Bío-Bío to the country's scientific and technological development, particularly in strategic sectors like forestry, where sustainability and innovation are essential to addressing current and future challenges.
