Detectives from the Chilean Investigative Police, belonging to the Environmental Crimes Investigative Brigade (Bidema) of Valdivia, arrested five people for the crime of timber theft in the commune of Los Lagos.
The operation took place at the El Pastor property and led to the seizure of species and machinery valued at approximately $7,865,000.
The procedure began on the afternoon of Thursday, March 26, following a report alerting about illegal logging in the area. Upon arrival, detectives surprised two men cutting eucalyptus without authorization, who were immediately arrested.
Subsequently, near the same property, a third individual involved in similar activities was located, who admitted to not having permits and was also apprehended.
The investigations continued on Friday when police personnel detected two other subjects extracting logs to load them onto a vehicle. Both were caught in the act and arrested for the same crime.
In total, the PDI seized two pickup trucks, three chainsaws, and 4.5 cubic meters of wood. Those arrested are five adult men, one of whom has a police record.
The procedure is part of efforts to combat crimes affecting forest resources in the region.
