Amidst the music and massive turnout of the REC Festival, a different proposal captured the public's attention this weekend: a wooden ramp that united sports, culture, and community at Concepción's Bicentennial Park.

The intervention was led by Chilean rider Coco Zurita, one of the main exponents of BMX internationally, who starred in one of the most striking activations of the event's eleventh edition, held on March 28th and 29th. The initiative was supported by Arauco, reinforcing its bond with the Biobío region.

The festival, considered the country's most important free music event, brought together hundreds of thousands of people around an international-level artistic lineup and a strong civic identity. In that context, Zurita's proposal stood out for integrating disciplines like BMX and skateboarding, expanding the concept "Without wood, there is no rock," which highlights the role of this material in music, stages, and daily life.

The ramp—built entirely from wood—was not only part of REC's activities but also traveled a route from Santiago to Concepción, symbolizing the territorial connection that characterizes the festival. Beyond its functional use, the project aimed to position wood as a renewable, versatile material linked to local identity.

However, one of the most significant aspects of the initiative extends beyond the event. After the REC concludes, the structure will be moved to the commune of Penco, one of the areas affected by the summer wildfires, where it will remain as a permanent space for the community.

"I strongly believe in leaving something more than just an event. Having this ramp go to Penco and stay for the children and youth is the most important thing," stated Zurita, highlighting the project's social impact.

In this way, the initiative not only provided an innovative experience for the festival but also aims to become a meeting point for sports and recreation, especially for children and young people, solidifying a proposal that connects culture, territory, and social commitment.
