René Muñoz, manager of the Association of Forestry Contractors, lamented the arson attack uncovered on the morning of this Wednesday in the rural area of Teodoro Schmidt, in the La Araucanía Region, where at least four machines belonging to a company were completely destroyed by fire.
According to preliminary information, a banner was found at the site whose content demands the freedom of Mapuche prisoners serving sentences in different penitentiary facilities in the region. So far, the authorship of the message has not been reported, nor has the attack been formally claimed.
Muñoz stated that "this is the second terrorist attack in the La Araucanía Region so far in 2026 and unfortunately affects small contractors who carry out their work under a state of exception, which maintains a deployment of the Armed Forces in the region."
"This keeps happening and contradicts the statements of the Undersecretary of the Interior, who claimed that the problem and violence in La Araucanía was solved. This is not the case, and we hope and trust that the next government will take action on the matter," he added.
Colonel Ximena Valle specified that it "was confirmed that three excavators and a truck belonging to a company providing external services for this forestry task were indeed damaged by fire."
The incident occurred in an area located approximately half an hour from Temuco towards the coast. Specialized Carabineros personnel remain deployed at the site carrying out procedures and expert examinations, including analysis of the banner found after the attack.
The banner in question contained the slogan: "Freedom for Huenchuñir, Millacheo, Tranamil and all Mapuche political prisoners," referring to Jaime Huenchuñir and Lientur Millacheo, currently in preventive detention for an attack that occurred on November 12, 2025 in Contulmo, an act claimed by the organization Weichan Auka Mapu (WAM); as well as Luis Tranamil who is serving a sentence for the homicide of Carabinero Eugenio Naín, which occurred in October 2020.
The attack did not result in any injured persons. The police procedure continues to determine the dynamics of the events and to find those responsible.
