Certified firewood sales companies in La Araucanía announced a price increase in light of rising fuel costs, while the National Consumer Service (Sernac) called on the community to compare prices.

The price of firewood in Temuco has experienced significant increases at some points of sale, reaching up to an extra 10,000 pesos per cubic meter, although other businesses have decided to keep their prices stable, despite the rise in fuel.

In this sense, the difference in strategies is mainly due to the competition represented by the pellet industry.

At the Calor de Hogar store, located on Inés de Suárez street, its owner, Francisco Fredes, stated that the sack of firewood remains at 4,000 pesos, despite the widespread increase in the sector.

"The prices we have are extremely tight, because firewood nowadays, I don't know if you or people know, this comes from fields that are remote in the mountain range," he explained.

He added that "we have already been selling the sack at a very tight price of 4,000 pesos, it is most likely to go up, we will try to make it as little as possible."

Something completely different is happening at the REDA cooperative, which distributes firewood in Labranza, where its owner, Víctor Esse, confirmed that "due to the price of fuel it becomes too expensive. It shot up our costs for delivery and all that, and the processing, and the cutting and splitting of firewood with a machine. We use a machine."

"The cooperative is selling at 70,000 pesos per cubic meter, cut and split, certified with its receipt, with an invoice, with everything. And I am selling it, as a private individual, at 65," he added.
