A large interagency operation was deployed in the commune of Los Muermos, in the Los Lagos Region, with the aim of strengthening control over the use and commercialization of forest resources from native forests.
The inspection was led by the National Forestry Corporation, in coordination with the Chilean Carabineros, the Internal Revenue Service, and municipal security teams, in response to alerts detected through satellite monitoring systems suggesting possible unauthorized forestry interventions.
One of the key factors for focusing the operation in the area is the presence of protected species, including the Alerce, a native tree under conservation category whose exploitation is strictly regulated.
During the day, the teams conducted checks on strategic routes in the commune, inspecting wood transport and verifying that shipments had the documentation required by current regulations. In particular, the Free Transit Guide, a mandatory document certifying the legal origin of forest products, was reviewed.
Conaf emphasized that this type of inspection aims to ensure that resource extraction is carried out under approved management plans, thereby guaranteeing the sustainability of native forests and preventing illegal practices.
Authorities also called on citizens to inform themselves and demand the corresponding documentation when purchasing firewood or other derived products, as a way to contribute to the protection of forest heritage.
This operation is part of a permanent control strategy in the region, which includes new deployments in various critical points to strengthen ecosystem protection and promote responsible use of natural resources.
