The former peace commissioner and current president of the Malleco Farmers Association, Sebastián Naveillán, accused the Government of a "lack of direction" regarding indigenous policies in La Araucanía.

In Naveillán's view, there is a lack of definitions within the Government. "I have spoken with ministers and undersecretaries. I still don't see a clear path. I see willingness, but willingness without decision is not policy. It's intention."

The leader of the Malleco Farmers warned that this situation prolongs uncertainty in the region. "La Araucanía has lived through too many years of good intentions," and pointed to the absence of certainties for farmers amid new land restitution demands.

On that point, he was critical of the current policy. "In a country with fiscal constraints, with no solution in sight and no certainties for anyone, that is not indigenous policy. That is a bottomless pit."

The concern was reignited following a request for the restitution of more than two thousand hectares in Temuco and amid ongoing political dialogue. "The conflict is not resolved by managing it. It is resolved by making decisions," he concluded.
