The Municipality of Santa Juana and private individuals affected by the 2023 forest fire are evaluating compensation lawsuits against the company Coelcha. Legal actions are being considered following the Prosecutor's Office's decision to take the two defendants in the case to trial, who face potential sentences of over five years in prison.

A few days ago, the upcoming conclusion of the investigation into the so-called Santa Ana fire was announced, which devastated the communes of Nacimiento and Santa Juana in February 2023.

Two workers from the Charrúa Electric Cooperative will be charged and taken to trial, whom the Prosecutor's Office holds responsible for starting the blaze due to a lack of maintenance of the safety strip under the power lines.

After learning of this decision, the mayor of Santa Juana, Angel Castro, as a plaintiff in the criminal aspect, stated that he will now begin working on the civil lawsuit so that the company compensates for the losses suffered by the municipality.

Attorney Remberto Valdés, who represents families who lost loved ones, expressed a similar sentiment. Regarding them, the professional said that civil liabilities will be enforced, and as a plaintiff before the Prosecutor's Office, he announced that he will join the accusation to seek maximum penalties against Coelcha employees.

By the end of May, prosecutor Jorge Lorca is expected to communicate the closure of the investigation before the Nacimiento Guarantee Court; therefore, the accusation with the request for penalties would be known in the first days of June.
