In the first seven months of 2026, exports from the Ñuble Region reached US$ 971 million, representing a growth of 38.8% compared to the same period in 2025, according to ProChile, with data from the Customs Directorate.
According to the director of ProChile Ñuble, Matías Mandiola, "these shipments show an upward trend both in the forestry sector, which adds US$ 532 million in the period with a 33.2% increase, and in the agricultural sector with shipments of US$ 420 million and a growth of 45.9%."
In detail, the main exported items were: cellulose (US$336.4 million), which recorded a growth of 63.1% compared to 2025; and processed fruit, mainly frozen (US$217.4 million), which increased by 84.7%.
Also noteworthy were: processed wood (US$110.5 million), fresh fruit (US$85.6 million), sawn wood (US$83.0 million), seeds for sowing (US$28.5 million), processed vegetables (US$19.7 million), and cereals (US$8.7 million).
Destinations
China was the main destination for Ñuble's shipments during the first seven months of the year, concentrating 36% of the total. Shipments to the Asian giant totaled US$ 347 million and experienced a growth of 78.7% compared to January-July of last year, driven by the recovery of cellulose shipments after a year of declines.
It is followed by the United States, with US$ 256 million (27% of the total) and a growth of 10.2%. Further behind are Canada, with US$ 35 million and an increase of 50.1%; Japan, with US$ 34 million and a variation of 24.5%; and Australia, with US$ 31 million and an increase of 38.8%.
Regarding China, Mandiola noted that "this is not a new phenomenon: in the last decade, China and the United States have consolidated as the main trading partners not only of Ñuble, but of Chile in general, for non-copper and non-lithium products."
"If we look in detail at Ñuble's shipments to China -the professional continued-, we observe that 89.2% corresponds to cellulose and 3.6% to sawn wood. Further down are fresh cherries with 3.5%, flours and starches with 1.2%, and other frozen fruits, with another 0.9%."
The challenge of diversification
The regional director of ProChile ruled out that China's growth represents a setback in efforts to diversify destinations.
"During this year, 166 companies from the Ñuble Region have exported a total of 168 different products to 75 markets. This speaks of a tremendously diversified export sector, but also of the challenge of increasing participation in other markets and of other products, which is the task that ProChile carries out through the promotion of the export of goods and services, especially of SMEs," Mandiola stated.
Along those lines, he emphasized that ProChile's promotion strategy is specifically oriented toward diversifying markets, "for which we have the support of the Regional Government."
He specified that "this has allowed us this year to be present in Colombia, with companies from the music sector; in Brazil, with wine producers from the Itata Valley; in Morocco, with companies from the agricultural sector; which will continue in the coming months, with participation in international fairs, business roundtables, business meetings, and trade missions that will take place in Mexico, Peru, Spain, and the United States."
