Public Statement May 17, 2022

Following the government's decision yesterday, May 16, 2022, to declare a state of emergency for the regions of Bio Bío and La Araucanía, the Association of Forestry Contractors A.G. declares that:

1.- Given that we were active participants in the negotiation table with the Undersecretary of the Interior, Mr. Manuel Monsalve, regarding the mobilization of forestry workers and contractors, we wish to clarify that part of the signed agreements established an intermediate, limited, or emergency state for the 4 regions of the southern macrozone.

2.- As they have declared war on the forestry sector, we are concerned that the regions of Los Ríos and Los Lagos, where our activity is also significant and attacks on forestry operations are increasing, are not included in the state of emergency decree, giving space to these subversive terrorist groups that move with impunity across these 4 regions.

3.- We are also concerned that, when addressing matters of public security, which directly impact investment and development in these territories, ideology is placed above the common and greater good of CHILE, OUR BELOVED COUNTRY.
