61% of losses from attacks on forestry operations in the south concentrated between 2020 and 2022
Regarding attacks against the lives and safety of workers, between 2021 and 2022, there were over 60 injured and four fatalities.
A study conducted by the Association of Forestry Contractors revealed that since January 1, 2014, when the first attack on a forestry operation took place, these incidents have resulted in losses of $151 million and the destruction of 1,307 transports and machinery used in forest harvesting across 50 communes in four southern regions of the country. According to the report, 61% of the total financial losses occurred in 2020 ($35.767 million), 2021 ($41.422 million), and the first five months of 2022 ($16.623 million), totaling $93.721 million. Regarding attacks on the lives and safety of workers, between 2021 and 2022, there were over 60 injuries from pellet and bullet impacts, and four fatalities from shootings just in that year alone.
