The province of Arauco was once again the scene of violence this Tuesday when a group of unidentified individuals entered a rural property in Contulmo and burned at least four trucks and a forestry machine located on the premises.
According to initial reports, the subjects arrived in an area adjacent to the urban zone of the commune and set fire to the vehicles and machinery, which belonged to a company working in the area. The motive for the attack appears to be internal conflicts between the company and the Mapuche ORTs operating in the sector.
The owners of the affected vehicles were the ones who alerted Carabineros about the attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning. Personnel from the Control and Public Order Unit (COP) went to the scene to verify the report and assess the damage.
Carabineros and Jedena responded to the attack site in Contulmo
According to the provincial delegate of Arauco, Humberto Toro, an alert was received about the burning of trucks belonging to a company conducting forestry operations in the commune. Carabineros and Jedena arrived at the scene and had to identify the exact location of the attack. "Just a few minutes ago, Carabineros and Jedena arrived at the site, and the information we have so far is that four trucks and a machine were burned. These are the details we currently have," Toro said.
The provincial delegate added that they are in the process of verifying whether any pamphlets, banners, or claims from the perpetrators of the attack were found. "We are in the midst of the investigation process; Carabineros and Jedena have just arrived at the precise location where these burned trucks and machinery were found," he stated.
So far, no injuries or arrests have been reported in connection with this incident, which adds to other arson attacks that have occurred in the province of Arauco in recent months.
For the manager of the forestry contractors, René Muñoz, "when there is talk of ending states of exception, this situation demonstrates the opposite. It is necessary to maintain it because it is needed. The province of Arauco has been in this state of insecurity, crime, and terrorism for too long, preventing normal activity."
