Man Convicted for Arson Attack in Rural Area of Valdivia
Today, the Oral Criminal Trial Court of Valdivia sentenced Jorge Marín Villalobos, 30, for burning machinery in a context of rural violence in the Cutipay Alto area of this district.
According to the prosecution's accusation, the defendant and his companions arrived at the scene at 8:30 p.m. on June 28, 2020, armed with what appeared to be firearms, with the intent to set fire to machinery. They carried out the act by pouring accelerant fluids on a compacting roller, two backhoes, a truck, and two containers, then igniting them. The damages were estimated at 200 million pesos.
Prosecutor Jaime Calfil presented a series of documentary, expert, material, and testimonial evidence proving that the accused, Jorge Alexander Marín Villalobos, committed this crime along with a group of individuals in a subdivision located in the Cutipay Alto area of Valdivia.
The defendant was also convicted by the Oral Criminal Trial Court of Valdivia as the perpetrator of a receiving stolen goods offense involving items found inside his home in the Lof Antillanca sector, Las Minas area of Valdivia. He was acquitted of the charge of cultivating cannabis sativa, as it could not be proven whether the plants in his home belonged to him or his partner.
He was also acquitted of the crime of robbery with intimidation, as it could not be proven whether he or one of his companions committed the offense.
The prosecution requested that Marín Antillanca be sentenced to 10 years and one day of major imprisonment (minimum degree) and a fine of 15 Monthly Tax Units as the perpetrator of arson, as well as 3 years and one day of minor imprisonment (medium degree) and a fine of 50 UTM as the perpetrator of receiving stolen goods.
The sentence will be announced on April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
