Close Circle of "El Mentolato" Arrested During Multiple Raids in Curanilahue
Early this Wednesday morning, five people were arrested during a raid aimed at dismantling the armed wing of "El Mentolato," the leader of a gang dedicated to timber theft in the Arauco province.
Four of them are members of the individual's inner circle: his partner, daughter, son-in-law, and a stepson of Rodrigo Ormeño Gómez.
The fifth person was arrested during an inspection conducted amid the raid procedures. This individual was carrying weapons at the time of the check.
At least four residences were raided this Wednesday morning in the areas of San José de Colico, Los Ríos, and Las Tomas, in the urban zone of the commune.
The operation uncovered firearms, ammunition of various calibers, cocaine, bulletproof vests, and tear gas grenades. Signal jammers were also found.
Two of the four detainees are accused of homicide. Another has a sealed case, which led to their arrest.
The provincial presidential delegate of Arauco, Humberto Toro, stated that efforts have been made in recent weeks to dismantle organized crime in the province.
Regarding this case, he confirmed that weapons and drugs were found.
Juan Carlos Bustos, chief of the Southern Macrozone Prefecture, added that a total of five people were arrested during the operation. Meanwhile, prosecutor Juan Yáñez noted that the operation is linked to the presence of weaponry and organized groups associated with "El Mentolato."
