Three machines destroyed in arson attack in Toltén: Claiming banners found
A front loader and two excavators were destroyed following an arson attack in Toltén, Cautín province, in the La Araucanía region.
The incident occurred on an inland road near Toltén, specifically in the Fintacue sector, km 50 on route S70. This marks the 14th attack on forestry contractors in a region that, it should be noted, is under a State of Exception.
A banner was found at the scene demanding the release of Mapuche prisoners and the removal of gravel companies from the municipality.
The mayor of Toltén, Guillermo Martínez, condemned the incident and urgently called on authorities to implement security measures that would allow companies to carry out their work peacefully.
Finally, through a banner, the group Wei Chan Auka Mapu claimed responsibility for the attack on the machinery, which had arrived in the area a couple of weeks earlier to begin maintenance and repair work on inland roads—work that had already been abandoned by another company due to violent incidents.
The group demanded the release of two of its members who are detained for various violent acts, as reported by the Public Ministry.
