Araucanía Consultation: 96.3% Consider Reparation for Victims of Terrorism a Priority
Through virtual ballot boxes, a total of 18,620 people participated in the Araucanía Consultation, an initiative addressing issues of interest to the region's inhabitants, with a focus on decentralization. With significant results, it was concluded that 96.3% voted YES, confirming that for the region, reparation for victims of terrorism is a priority.
After the results—voted through virtual ballot boxes located at the Araucanía Pavilion—were announced, Governor Luciano Rivas stated, "What we will do with these decisive and significant results, both in terms of participation and the percentage of people in favor of this law, is present them to the President of the Republic, the highest authority in our country, who must enact and prioritize a law like this."
Additionally, Rivas affirmed, "Those of us who believe there is terrorism in the Araucanía region need this law, and today we are making progress through various initiatives like the Consultation, with a president who acknowledges this situation, an interior minister who also recognizes it, and I believe we are at the right moment to advance a reparation law."
The municipalities with the highest percentage of resident participation were Lumaco, Victoria, Los Sauces, Collipulli, and Ercilla—all in the Malleco province, where historically the highest number of attacks have been concentrated.
The process was conducted through the website www.consultaaraucania.cl and was managed by the remote election specialist company, Evoting.
