Forestry Contractors Criticize Delay in Agreement Process with Government Before ILO
37 days after the Government communicated in writing to theInternational Labour Organization(ILO) its willingness to participate in a conciliation process with theAssociation of Forestry Contractors(Acoforag), regarding a complaint for non-compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, this productive sector claims that the meetings have not yet begun, there is no work plan, they have not been contacted by the authorities, and they do not know who their government counterpart will be. The contractors' union filed the request with the international body last October, highlighting the vulnerability faced by the sector due to continuous episodes of fires and destruction."More than 30 days have already passed since we received the communication from the ILO, which sets a six-month deadline to reach a conciliation. We are interested in resolving this,"stated the manager of Acoforag,René Muñoz.
