Meanwhile, René Muñoz, president of the Association of Forestry Contractors, stated that "this is good news for the entire Southern Macrozona. We hope the evidence presented by the Prosecutor's Office will be strong enough to formalize and then prosecute these terrorists, who have caused so much harm to the province of Arauco."

In November 2021, the Investigative Police began tracking this operational arm of the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance (RML), which today resulted in 11 arrests, including active members of the organization, others linked through illicit associations, and two Carabineros officers.

Crimes such as timber theft and car robberies were aimed at financing acts of violence and attacks in the province of Arauco.

The prefect of the Southern Macrozona, Carlos Bustos, detailed that 140 officers participated in the operation.

"Using police intelligence, we achieved the arrest of 11 individuals today (...) with the support of the Chilean Navy," stated the officer.

Regarding the involvement of the two officers, local deputy Flor Weisse (UDI) called it unacceptable and demanded an investigation.

"Dismantling the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance organization is a major step forward. Here, 'let the chips fall where they may' must apply to everyone, especially members of the Carabineros de Chile, who should be the first to act with honesty."

On the other hand, Deputy Eric Aedo (DC) said this was a result of the corruption fueled by terrorism.

"Terrorism, organized crime, generates corruption and infiltrates institutions of our Republic. It is time for justice to act (...)," declared the lawmaker.

"This arrest shows that justice is on the side of the victims, many of them workers and modest contractors who, due to these attacks, lose their livelihoods. We trust the government will not cease its support for these actions, as this is how we can end impunity," Ugarte emphasized.

René Muñoz, president of the Association of Forestry Contractors, echoed this sentiment, recalling attacks on workers.

"This is good news for the entire Southern Macrozona. We hope the evidence presented by the Prosecutor's Office will be strong enough to formalize and then prosecute these terrorists, who have caused so much harm to the province of Arauco," said Muñoz.

It should be noted that this Thursday, the precautionary measures for the 11 detainees were announced, with six placed in preventive detention and the other five under total house arrest, including the two Carabineros officers.
