RML Case: Court Upholds Government's Appeal and Orders Preventive Detention for All Detainees
Victory for the Government. This Monday, the fourth chamber of the Court of Appeals of Concepción accepted the appeal seeking preventive detention for all 11 individuals detained last week for their involvement in the Resistencia Mapuche Lafquenche case.
Unanimously, the judges revoked the precautionary measure of total house arrest for five of the subjects, including active carabinero Darwin Carrillo and retired officer Luis Berna.
Last Thursday, Judge Ana Pino had granted the prosecution's request, ordering preventive detention for six detainees and total house arrest for five. The Government, through the Regional Presidential Delegation, appealed this latter ruling.

Today, the prosecuting and defense parties presented their arguments. The lawyer for the Arauco Forestry Company only requested preventive detention for the two uniformed officers. However, the court ultimately ruled the same measure for all.
The other three detainees whose precautionary measures were escalated today are Rubén Fonseca, Juan Faúndez, and Víctor Maldonado. Hernán Coñuel, Jerson Fernández, Jairo Aaravena, Wilson Saavedra, Guillermo Medina, and Pablo Carrillo were already under preventive detention.
