The Red Alert remains in effect in the commune as firefighters and brigades work to control the flames threatening homes in Tomeco.

A fierce wildfire that broke out in the town of Tomeco, part of the Yumbel commune in the Biobío Region, has consumed approximately 35 hectares of vegetation, including native species and plantations. The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), along with Firefighters and Forestal Arauco brigades, are tirelessly working to contain the flames, which are dangerously approaching inhabited areas, keeping the Red Alert active in the commune.

Since the start of the incident, recorded yesterday, the flames have endangered around 12 homes near the affected area. Overnight containment efforts have allowed the establishment of firebreaks and water application to prevent the fire's spread. However, current weather conditions, with forecasts of high temperatures and significant winds in the Biobío Region, are complicating firefighting efforts.

Rodrigo Jara, regional director of Conaf in Biobío, reported that no damage to homes has been reported so far and highlighted the deployment of both ground and aerial resources to combat the fire, named "El Litre." Authorities urged the public to remain calm and follow safety instructions, also calling to avoid activities that could trigger new fire outbreaks, such as burning trash or lighting campfires.

It is hoped that weather conditions will not worsen the situation and that joint efforts will succeed in controlling the fire before it causes further devastation.
