Large-Scale Operation in San Juan de la Costa Recovers Land Plots Usurped for Over a Year
In the early hours of this Wednesday, an operation coordinated by the Osorno Local Prosecutor's Office led to the recovery of two land plots that had been usurped for more than a year and a half. The action, carried out jointly with the Investigative Police (PDI), Carabineros, and various Prefectures of the Southern Macrozone, represents a significant step forward in reclaiming irregularly occupied territories.
Osorno Chief Prosecutor María Angélica de Miguel reported that the operation is part of an ongoing investigation into crimes of usurpation, illegal possession of firearms, timber theft, and attempted homicide against Carabineros.
The operation included simultaneous raids on the Purrehuín Alto property (San Nicolás sector), owned by Forestal Vista Hermosa and usurped for approximately a year and a half, and Santa Herminia (Loma de la Piedra sector), belonging to Forestal Hancock, occupied for nearly two years.
Additionally, interventions were carried out at 13 properties, including residences in Osorno and estates in Loma de la Piedra.
Among the operation's results were the arrest of one individual, the seizure of a shotgun, ammunition—including live military rounds—bulletproof vests, cash, computer equipment, and phones, which will undergo forensic analysis.
"The State Regains Control of the Territory"
Prosecutor María Angélica de Miguel emphasized, "The State had been unable to enter these areas for one or two years because officers were repelled with gunfire, stones, and other forms of violence. This demonstrates that the State will enter any part of the national territory where it is required."
The official highlighted the effective coordination between the Prosecutor's Office, PDI, and Carabineros, stating that this first action marks the beginning of further interventions within the framework of this investigation.
Context of the Conflict
The usurped territories, owned by forestry companies, have been subject to violence and illegal occupations in recent years. Recovering these lands aims to restore state control and advance legal processes to ensure security in the area.
This operation marks a milestone in efforts to combat crimes related to land usurpation and other associated offenses in the Southern Macrozone.
