As of December 1, all types of controlled or uncontrolled agricultural or forestry grassland burning have been prohibited. The regulation will remain in effect until March 31, 2025, as announced by the National Forestry Corporation, Conaf.

The regions where the use of fire for these tasks is prohibited are:Valparaíso, Metropolitan, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, Araucanía, Los Lagos, and Los Rios, areas that experience high temperatures and strong winds, conditions favorable for any burning to turn into a disaster endangering nature and residential areas.

Conaf stated that anyone caught violating this regulation risksfines ranging from $700,000 to 3 million pesos or imprisonment from 71 days to 3 years and one day.

The measure aims to prevent the occurrence of forest fires.
