"Deeply beloved and respected leader": CMPC mourns death of manager hit by car while cycling
This Thursday, Empresas CMPC lamented the sudden passing of Alejandro Nova Camarena, operations manager of the Wood Products division, who died after being hit by a car while cycling on the morning of December 25, Christmas Day, in a rural area of the commune of Los Ángeles, in the Biobío region.
In a statement, CMPC expressed that "with deep sorrow, we communicate the sensitive passing of Alejandro Nova Camarena, who served as Operations Manager of the Wood Products business, which occurred on December 25, 2024."
"Alejandro will always be remembered as a deeply beloved and respected leader, not only by his direct team but also by his peers and the entire organization. Beyond his professional achievements, his great human quality left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him," they added.
In this regard, CMPC extended their "most sincere condolences to his family during this difficult time, as well as to all who shared great experiences with him in the Wood Products business team. We stand with them with all our support during this period of grief."
Carabineros confirmed that the driver responsible for the hit-and-run, who was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, did not assist the victim and fled the scene. However, he was later arrested and identified as a foreign national with irregular immigration status.
Major Daniel Andrade of the Biobío Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) detailed that on Wednesday, "around approximately 9:00 a.m., a tragic accident was recorded on Route Q-15, very close to kilometer 3, in the direction of Saltos del Laja."
"We are carrying out all necessary procedures to clarify both the dynamics and the cause of this accident, which allegedly involved the driver of a vehicle and the rider of a bicycle, the latter unfortunately losing his life," concluded the officer.
