Esteban Krause Appointed as New Regional Director of CONAF Biobío
The forestry engineer from the Universidad Austral de Chile has extensive experience as a professional at the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) and in the public sector.
As of today, Monday, December 9, the Executive Directorate of the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) has appointed Esteban Krause Salazar, a forestry engineer from the Universidad Austral de Chile, as the new regional director for Biobío.
Esteban Krause, 66, has a long and distinguished career in the public sector. He served as mayor of the city of Los Ángeles for three terms, between 2012 and 2024. Previously, he was governor of Biobío Province from 2002 to 2010 and regional director of CONAF in Biobío from 2000 to 2001.
He joined CONAF in 1988 as a technical professional in forest administration, oversight, and wildfire control, later holding various positions, including provincial chief in Biobío Province.
Upon his appointment, the new regional director of CONAF expressed his gratitude to Executive Director Aída Baldini. "This is undoubtedly a tremendous challenge, and I hope, drawing from my experience in the public sector, to contribute to all the Corporation's efforts, particularly in wildfire prevention and control. The regional CONAF team consists of highly experienced professionals who will undoubtedly be key to the work we will all carry out together," he stated.
Finally, CONAF's Executive Directorate thanked Alberto Bordeu, who served as interim regional director over the past few weeks.
