"This creates a sense of insecurity": Mayor of Río Negro expresses concern after new arson attack
- Almost two years ago, an arson attack was also carried out in the same location, where the forestry company Arauco operated at that time.
Once again, Río Negro is the target of an arson attack against forestry companies, where this time a group of individuals entered a property in the Popoén sector, managing to burn 12 trucks and seven machines after 1:30 PM this Monday, while the workers were having lunch.
The acting chief of the PDI, Deputy Superintendent Rudy Cancino, stated that forestry operations were being carried out on the property where the violent events occurred. According to preliminary reports, between 10 and 12 individuals, with their faces uncovered, intimidated the workers.
The mayor of Río Negro, Sebastián Cruzat, mentioned that almost two years ago, an arson attack was also perpetrated in the same location, where the forestry company Arauco operated at that time.
"These are groups that seek to attack forestry companies, and unfortunately, since that area borders San Juan de La Costa through Loma de la Piedra, arson attacks have been carried out on other occasions. At least in the three years I've been mayor, I would dare to say this is the fourth arson attack on forestry machinery. This creates an overwhelming sense of insecurity among our residents," he stated.
He added, "What is needed here is to achieve results after four attacks," he said.
