Victims of Rural Violence in La Araucanía Without State Funding for 2024
- The Association of Victims of Rural Violence denounces the lack of government support and prepares a formal request to the Ministry of the Interior seeking funding for next year.
The Association of Victims of Rural Violence in La Araucanía has publicly expressed its concern over the absence of government funding for 2024.
This situation has jeopardized the continuity of the assistance they provide to the 427 individuals affected by attacks and assaults in the region. The association's president, Alejo Apraiz, described the government's attitude as "selfish" and announced the preparation of a formal request to the Ministry of the Interior to seek funding for 2025.
The association, known for its private and non-profit nature, has been a key support for victims of rural violence, offering professional help to address the aftermath of attacks. However, the lack of funds has limited its capacity to act, preventing the admission of new victims and forcing professionals to work pro bono.
Apraiz has been critical of the government's management, stating that it has had a "limited role" in supporting victims, many of whom belong to low-income sectors, with most being women and elderly individuals. The association is now at a critical juncture, seeking alternatives to ensure the continuity of its essential work in the La Araucanía region.
