Los Lagos: Surprise Over Closure of Seremi of Agriculture Office in Osorno
The closure of the Seremi of Agriculture office in Osorno, Los Lagos region, has caused surprise.
The measure was planned and involves a minimal number of officials, assured the acting Seremi of Agriculture, Francisco Parada, stating that there would be no layoffs, only relocations.
"These offices only have two contract professionals. There are no fee-based officials in these offices," Parada clarified.
According to the representative of the ministry, the measure will strengthen the management of the Ministry of Agriculture by concentrating its tasks in Puerto Montt, while still receiving procedures from producers and the general public in the Osorno province.
In explaining the measure, officials defended the decision, particularly by denying any impact on the Ministry of Agriculture's coverage of the area.
The closure of the Osorno office of the Seremi of Agriculture is still noteworthy, given what is supposed to be the public sector's approach to productive areas—especially since this zone's economy is based on meat and dairy production.
