In an act of solidarity and determination, the Mapuche communities of the Toquihue territory in Victoria, La Araucanía region, issued a statement condemning the recent act of sabotage against the company Sierra Nevada, responsible for the works on the R550 route. This road is vital for the connectivity and well-being of over 500 Mapuche families who travel it daily, seeking economic autonomy and a sustainable future.

On January 15, Sierra Nevada was attacked in an incident that local communities have labeled a criminal act undermining progress and harmony in the region. The affected communities, including Antonio Milla, Antonio Milla dos, Chavol 2, Romualdo Caniuqueo (Quilapan), and Weni Mapu Pailahueque, have unanimously expressed their rejection, emphasizing their commitment to Kiñewú, or "one single thought," which promotes unity and kilme mogñen, or "good living."

For years, these communities have faced neglect by the state and environmental damage caused by forestry companies, which have deteriorated the road through the harvesting of pine and eucalyptus forests. Despite these challenges, they have maintained a peaceful and constructive struggle, focused on improving their quality of life and preserving their culture and autonomy.

The sabotage not only threatens vital infrastructure for the region but also endangers the cohesion and efforts of the Mapuche communities to maintain peaceful coexistence and respect for the environment. The statement from the Toquihue communities is a call for peace and mutual respect, rejecting any form of violence and reaffirming their right to sustainable and just development.

Local and national authorities are called upon to respond to these events, ensuring the safety and progress of the works on the R550 route, as well as recognizing and supporting the legitimate demands of the Mapuche communities for dignified and equitable treatment.

The Toquihue communities remain vigilant and united, demonstrating that solidarity and commitment to collective well-being are stronger than any act of sabotage. Their message is clear: building a better future for all must be free of violence and rooted in respect for the land and its original inhabitants.
