An arson attack was reported in the last few hours in the commune of Victoria, in the La Araucanía region, where two machines and a truck were burned.

This occurred in the Toquihue sector, near kilometer 1 of Route R 550.

Specialized units of Carabineros arrived at the scene to conduct forensic investigations to identify those responsible for this new act of violence in the Southern Macrozone.

Two banners from the Mapuche Resistance Malleco (RMM), one of the radical groups operating in the area, were also found at the site.

One of the banners read, "Fair trial for the 17 Mapuche political prisoners. Against the hatred and racism of the Chilean State." This refers to the trial that began a few days ago in the Criminal Court of Angol for the kidnapping of prison guards following a riot in the local prison in May 2023.

The damaged machinery belongs to a company that has been performing maintenance on an internal road connecting the commune of Victoria with Toquihue since last year—September.

One of the workers, who was operating the motor grader, expressed regret about the incident in an interview with Radio Bío Bío: "We are workers trying to provide well-being for the people in this area, and we encounter this. It's terrible."

Injured Carabinera

Simultaneously, authorities are investigating this attack alongside an ambush suffered by a carabinera also in Victoria.

This occurred around 07:00 hours this Wednesday when a call to the Fourth Police Station in Victoria alerted about individuals allegedly setting forest fires in the Chabol community.

Upon arrival, the police officers exited their vehicle and were immediately ambushed with gunfire from various directions by a group of individuals hidden among the trees.

In this context, the carabinera was hit by pellets in one of her legs and was transported to Victoria Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
