A police officer was shot in one of his legs during an attack by an armed group in Ercilla, in the La Araucanía region.

According to information from Radio Bío Bío, the injured officer is a member of the Public Order Control unit of the uniformed police.

Preliminary reports indicate that the officer was wounded amid gunfire by unknown assailants while he and other officers were inside containers at the San Ramón faction.

Immediately afterward, an operation was launched at the scene, and the officer was transported to the emergency department of Victoria Hospital.

Upon arrival, he began receiving medical attention and, according to La Radio, remains in stable condition with no life-threatening risk.

After the injured officer arrived at the medical facility, personnel from the police's Labocar unit arrived at the hospital to conduct forensic tests aimed at determining the caliber of the ammunition used in the shooting.

Meanwhile, General Cristian Mansilla Varas, head of the Public Order Control Zone in La Araucanía, stated, "At one of our factions, where we maintain protective measures in the San Ramón sector, our officers were cowardly attacked with firearms from a wooded area."

"One of our officers suffered a ballistic impact injury to one of his legs. Fortunately, the officer is not in life-threatening danger, but he does have a significant injury," he added.

Additionally, an extensive operation was deployed at the scene to locate those responsible for the attack.

Finally, the Prosecutor's Office assigned personnel from OS9 and Labocar to lead the investigative process.
