Two people were arrested for their alleged participation in the illegal removal of timber from a property belonging to the company CMPC, located in the commune of Ercilla, La Araucanía Region. The procedure allowed forestry material to be recovered and vehicles and tools used in the illicit activity to be seized.

The operation, called "Green Shield," was carried out by detectives from the Robbery Investigation Brigade (BIRO) of Angol, as part of an investigation coordinated with the Public Prosecutor's Office to identify and dismantle organizations linked to the theft and illegal sale of forestry products in the province.

According to police records, surveillance efforts made it possible to detect two vehicles transporting timber extracted without authorization from the Nueva Francia estate. At the scene, officers identified the illegal felling of hualle and eucalyptus trees, proceeding to arrest the drivers in flagrante delicto.

In total, 8 cubic meters of eucalyptus and two cubic meters of native timber were recovered, species whose commercial value was estimated at $600,000. Likewise, police seized a pickup truck, a truck, two chainsaws, and the defendants' cell phones, with a combined appraisal of close to $35 million.

The investigation seeks to combat structures dedicated to the extraction, theft, and illegal sale of timber from properties belonging to forestry companies and private owners.

On the instructions of the on-duty prosecutor, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the Collipulli Guarantee Court. The recovered timber was returned to CMPC, while the vehicles were transferred to municipal facilities.
