The forestry industry continued to be one of the pillars of exports from the Biobío Region during August 2026, with shipments totaling US$ 203.5 million when considering pulp, paper, and paperboard manufacturing activities, together with the forestry category. However, while pulp recorded annual growth, shipments of forestry products experienced a decrease compared with the same month in 2025.

According to the Export Bulletin of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), pulp, paper, and paperboard manufacturing reached US$ 139.3 million, an increase of 14.3% over twelve months. Meanwhile, the forestry category totaled US$ 71.5 million, with a drop of 3.2% compared with August of the previous year. Both activities are among those with the largest share in the regional export structure.

Among the main products shipped abroad, pulp stood out, reaching US$ 132.7 million, equivalent to 38.5% of Biobío's total exports, with a year-on-year increase of 13.2%. In contrast, sawn wood recorded shipments of US$ 22 million, a figure that represented a decrease of 32.7% compared with August 2025.

Other products from the wood industry also showed mixed results. Wood fiberboards increased their exports to US$ 17.3 million, a growth of 23.1%, while plywood reached US$ 10.7 million, with a decline of 8.9%. Meanwhile, wooden doors recorded shipments of US$ 5.3 million, an increase of 90.4% over twelve months.

Overall, exports from the Biobío Region totaled US$ 344.2 million during August, with year-on-year growth of 0.2%. The Industry sector accounted for US$ 334.9 million, equivalent to 97.3% of the regional total, while the cumulative total between January and August reached US$ 3,080.8 million, 2.4% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The results reflect the strategic weight of the forestry chain in Biobío's export economy, with pulp as the main export product and differing performances among the various segments of the wood industry.
