A coordinated operation in the commune of Corral, Los Ríos Region, ended with four people detained and the seizure of vehicles, tools and timber, whose total value would approach $50 million. The procedure was carried out within the framework of the actions promoted by the Intersectoral Roundtable on Timber Theft.
The operation was carried out by police personnel, who arrested four Chilean men in flagrante delicto, all of legal age, accused of extracting timber without authorization from its owners in the Futa sector. According to the background information provided by the SUMA team of the Investigative Brigade for Crimes against the Environment and Cultural Heritage (Bidema) of the PDI, among the species recovered were five cubic meters of eucalyptus and three cubic meters of mañío.
During the procedure, two pickup trucks, a three-quarter truck and two chainsaws were also seized, items allegedly used in the illicit activity.
The operation is part of the Regional Plan against Organized Crime, which considers timber theft among priority crimes and promotes joint work among police, public services and oversight agencies.
On the instructions of prosecutor Gonzalo Valderas, the four defendants were placed at the disposal of the Valdivia Court for their respective formalization.
