A total of 143 naval personnel will make up the Navy Forest Brigade (Brifar), a team that will be prepared to support forest firefighting during the highest-risk season, between November and April.
The personnel belong to the Naval Polytechnic Academy (Apolinav) and the "Félix Aguayo Bastidas" Marine Infantry Fort. Their deployment will cover the jurisdiction of the First Naval Zone, from Chañaral to Pichilemu.
To carry out their duties, the brigade will have personal protective equipment, such as helmets, goggles, jackets and flame-retardant pants, as well as tools to fight fire, clear roads and build firebreaks.
The activation of the team will depend on the alerts issued by Senapred. In the event of a yellow alert, its members must remain prepared, while a red alert will lead to their deployment, in coordination with the command of the Valparaíso Naval Garrison.
Lieutenant Commander Carolina Rioseco, head of the Apolinav Operations Department, highlighted that having a trained and equipped brigade will make it possible to respond safely and effectively to emergencies, helping to prevent the spread of fire and reduce its damage.
BRIFAR is part of the 2026-2027 National Forest Fire Plan, a strategy that includes more than 40 protocols and coordination agreements among public agencies, Firefighters and representatives of the forestry sector. It also includes regional drills and the strengthening of aerial coordination and communication systems to improve response to these emergencies.
