The Condominio Cipreses del Maule housing project, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) in the commune of Linares, is making significant progress and stands out as the first wooden building in the region. Currently, the works have reached 17% execution, marking a milestone in construction innovation and sustainability.
The project is located in a strategic location, just a few blocks from Linares' Plaza de Armas, which will allow its future residents easy access to services, commerce, and urban amenities. The initiative includes the construction of a five-story prefabricated building that will house a total of 40 apartments, with floor areas ranging from 52 to 67 square meters.
The homes will be available in two- and three-bedroom configurations, designed to meet the needs of different family groups, from vulnerable sectors to middle-income earners. In this regard, the project falls under the Social and Territorial Integration program (DS19), which promotes coexistence among families from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
One of the condominium's main attributes is its wooden construction system, which is part of a Minvu strategy to promote industrialization in housing construction. This approach not only reduces construction times but also improves the thermal performance of homes and reduces the carbon footprint, contributing to more environmentally friendly building.
In addition to the apartments, the project includes a series of complementary spaces aimed at improving the quality of life for its residents. These include commercial premises, green areas, parking lots, barbecue areas, children's playgrounds, and pedestrian walkways, creating a more integrated, functional, and community-oriented environment.
The Minvu has highlighted the innovative nature of this project, emphasizing that it is a pioneering experience in the region that could pave the way for new housing solutions based on wood, a material that has been gaining ground in modern construction due to its advantages in sustainability and efficiency.
Construction of the Condominio Cipreses del Maule began in August 2025 and, according to the established schedule, will extend until August 2027. During this period, the project is expected to continue advancing in accordance with the technical and quality standards defined by the ministry.
In parallel, the commune of Linares maintains other housing projects under execution under the same DS19 program. These include Doña Agustina 3, with 160 apartments and 55% progress, as well as the Enrique Maturana complex, which includes 215 homes and has already reached 96% completion. At the regional level, at least eight new initiatives are also projected to start in the coming months.
The DS19 program allows vulnerable families to access a home without incurring debt, while other groups can supplement the state subsidy with a mortgage loan. In this way, the aim is to foster more diverse and inclusive neighborhoods with access to quality infrastructure and services.
With this type of project, the Minvu is committed to transforming the way cities are developed, incorporating criteria of sustainability, innovation, and territorial equity into the country's housing planning.
