Southern Chile gains a new boost to its logistics network with a strategic agreement that promises to transform forest cargo transport in the macrozone. The railway company Transap finalized a long-term alliance with CMPC, securing the transport of timber logs to the main industrial complexes in the country's central-south region for the next 12 years.
The contract, forged in October 2025, will begin operations on August 1, 2026, marking a significant step in consolidating rail transport as a key pillar for the forestry industry. The initiative aims to optimize times, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen the sustainability of the transport system, decreasing pressure on road routes.
Strategic Connectivity
The operational model envisions efficient coordination between supply zones and industrial plants. Shipments will originate in locations such as Loncoche, Mariquina, and Rapaco, from where the cargo will be transported to two key production hubs: the Santa Fe Plant, located in Nacimiento, and the Pacifico Plant in Mininco.
These facilities concentrate a significant portion of the country's pulp production, so ensuring a constant flow of raw material is essential for the sector's operational continuity.
Railway Projection
Transap emphasizes that this agreement adds to other recent initiatives that have strengthened its presence in the sector, consolidating its position in the rail transport of forest products. The company highlights that the combination of current contracts will allow for increased operational capacity and progress towards higher standards of safety and efficiency.
The alliance also reflects a growing trend towards more sustainable logistics solutions, where the train is once again positioned as a competitive alternative to road transport, especially for high-volume loads like timber.
Industry Impact
The agreement between Transap and CMPC not only ensures supply continuity in a key industry for the Chilean economy but also reinforces the role of the railway as a strategic pillar for productive development in the south of the country.
With a 12-year term, starting in August 2026, and a focus on efficiency and safety, this contract projects a new stage for forest logistics, marked by integration, innovation, and a long-term perspective.
