The mother of one of the two forest rangers murdered on a property in Carahue, in the La Araucanía region, accuses the Public Prosecutor's Office of making no progress in the investigation to find those responsible for the crime.

Four years after the brutal murder of forest ranger Benjamín Bustos Manríquez, aged 23, his family cried out for justice so that those responsible would pay for the homicide.

4 years without justice

From her home in Vilcún, Ingrid Manríquez, mother of the young man gunned down, said she is heartbroken because her son's case is being left in impunity.

"We've been waiting for more than 4 years to have justice for the cruel murder of our son, and here we are, like the first day, heartbroken, desperate, not knowing who the murderers of our son were," the woman stated.

"My son was young, he had his whole life ahead of him, and they ended it, leaving an entire family shattered and still suffering," Manríquez lamented.

Killers tampered with surveillance cameras

That same day, Alejandro Carrasco Mellafe (30) was also killed, who along with Benjamín were guarding the "El Encanto" estate, owned by Forestal Mininco in Carahue, while performing duties for the company First Security.

Both young men were gunned down with large-caliber weapons while inside a vehicle. Then the shooters took the memory cards from the car's security camera, thus preventing identification.

Despite the investigative efforts carried out in this case by the police and the Public Prosecutor's Office, so far no one has been arrested or charged as responsible for this crime.
