The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that it expects to deliver a new Forestry Promotion Law to the President of the Republic during the month of August.

The initiative aims to update the current Decree 701, which dates back to 1974, and adapt regulations to the current national scenario, both in terms of environmental conditions and the situations faced by each territory.

In a conversation with SABES, the Minister of Agriculture, Jaime Campos, explained about this Forestry Promotion Law that "we will not yet disclose the content, as it will be announced by the President of the Republic. We are very advanced in the construction of this instrument and I hope to deliver it to the President in the coming weeks to carry out evaluations at La Moneda."

"This is a very powerful instrument, which includes the work of several ministries and institutions of the country. Here we have listened to the productive sector, academia, and professional associations, since we are talking about the design of a state policy," he added.

Meanwhile, the national director of Conaf, Aida Baldini, indicated that "forestry promotion is essential for the forestry sector and also for the environmental sector, since this project covers both phases and has good reception among stakeholders."

"We will determine the areas to be forested, the promotion, and its oversight. Although we lack personnel, we are integrating new tools such as satellite technology, among others," she concluded.
